U.S. Women’s National Team Foreign Tour Team Named

Scott McCall

BALTIMORE — US Lacrosse has named 24 players to participate with the U.S. Women’s National Team on a foreign tour to England this summer. The U.S. team will travel to Surrey Sports Park in Guildford, England from June 28 to July 4 and is expected to play games against England, Scotland and Wales. Surrey Sports Park is the location for the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse World Cup.

“While this selection was extremely difficult, we are very excited about the 24 players selected to represent their country this summer,” said head coach Ricky Fried. “While it is always tough to make selections with such talented players, the difficulty this time around was increased due to the effort each person made to come together to form a team. They worked hard both on and off of the field to connect and trust one another and it showed this past weekend. The touring team has a balance of veterans and rookies, all of whom posses high levels of athleticism, skill and decision making. This is another critical step towards competing in the next World Cup in 2017.”

The 36-member U.S. team competed in the Team USA Spring Premiere at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., this past weekend, defeating Florida 19-8 and Syracuse 20-8.
