Team USA Spring Premiere to be Streamed Live on USLacrosse.org

BALTIMORE – The 2016 outdoor lacrosse season opens this weekend with the inaugural Team USA Spring Premiere at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. The U.S. women’s senior team will play a doubleheader against the University of Florida and Syracuse University on Saturday, Jan. 9. On Sunday, Jan. 10, the U.S. men’s senior team plays against defending NCAA champion University of Denver, and that game will be followed by the U.S. men’s U19 team playing against Canada.
All four games will be streamed live on www.uslacrosse.org.

The action opens with the U.S. women’s team playing Florida on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Gators are ranked 10th in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine preseason rankings. That game will be followed by the U.S. women’s team playing Syracuse, which enters the season ranked third nationally.
The U.S. team, winner of the two most recent World Cups, is training for the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship, which will be held in Guildford, England. The U.S. team features seven members of the 2013 gold-medal winning World Cup team, including two-time Tewaaraton Award winner Katie Schwarzmann. Taylor Cummings, a senior at the University of Maryland who has led the Terps to two straight national titles while winning the Tewaaraton Award, will also be playing for Team USA.

Sunday’s action opens at 11 a.m. with John Danowski making his debut as the head coach for the U.S. men’s team as Team USA faces Denver, ranked second by Lacrosse Magazine. Danowski was recently selected to lead the U.S. at the 2018 FIL World Championship in Manchester, England. Nine players that represented the U.S. in the 2014 FIL World Championship in Denver are participating, including leading scorer Rob Pannell and 2015 Major League Lacrosse MVP Greg Gurenlian, both of the New York Lizards. Gurenlian will battle one of his pupils, Denver sophomore Trevor Baptiste, in an intriguing faceoff showdown.

The finale will feature Canada against the U.S. in a matchup between the top two gold-medal favorites for this summer’s FIL Men’s U19 World Championship in Coquitlam, British Columbia. The U.S. is led by Ohio State coach Nick Myers and features Virginia freshman Ryan Conrad, the nation’s No. 1 ranked recruit by Inside Lacrosse in the Class of 2015. Florida native Jared Bernhardt will also compete for Team USA.
