16th Annual Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft Returns to LaxCon

BOSTON – On Friday, Jan. 22, Major League Lacrosse will hold the 16th annual Collegiate Draft, presented by Cascade Lacrosse, in conjunction with the US Lacrosse Convention. The event will take place at 8:30 p.m. ET at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Md.

Members of the media are invited to cover the event. We ask that you please RSVP HERE.

The Collegiate Draft presented by Cascade Lacrosse marks the third round of drafts. It follows the Expansion Draft that took place in mid-November and the Supplemental Draft, which occurred Dec. 16.

“Cascade’s involvement with the MLL Collegiate Draft is a natural fit given their sponsorship of the MLL Rookie of the Year awards for several years now. There’s a great connection between Cascade and the rookies entering the league,” said David Gross, MLL Commissioner. “Cascade’s sponsorship will make for an exciting draft.”

Cascade Lacrosse is known for its groundbreaking technological innovations in lacrosse gear, allowing players to perform at their highest potential, and thus making the sport even more competitive.

Only seniors with expiring eligibility after the 2015-16 NCAA season are eligible for the Collegiate Draft. Any NCAA player that is drafted will not be offered a contract until their college team’s season has concluded.

MLL fans should anticipate another great season of action, as the Collegiate Draft has historically produced some of the League’s most talented players. A few fan favorites who entered the league through the first pick of the Collegiate Draft include Paul Rabil (Johns Hopkins), Kyle Harrison (Johns Hopkins), Lyle Thompson (Albany), Rob Pannell (Cornell), and Joe Walters (Maryland).

“The Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft for years has represented a festive conclusion to the opening day of LaxCon, not to mention providing our convention attendees with the first peak at the league’s future stars,” said Kim Rogers, director of events at US Lacrosse. “We’re thrilled to welcome MLL again.”

The US Lacrosse Convention is the largest event of its kind, annually marking the start of lacrosse season. More than 7,500 athletes, coaches and officials are expected to attend and participate in 150 on-field clinics, demonstrations, and educational sessions. Hundreds of experienced speakers, including MLL player, entrepreneur, and Lacrosse Magazine’s 2015 Person of the Year, Paul Rabil, 2010 IWLCA Coach of the Year, Cathy Reese, and former Hofstra and current Duke and Team USA coach, John Danowski, will be giving presentations on various topics related to the lacrosse spectrum.

Discounted individual (starting at $ 120) and group (starting at $ 100) registration for LaxCon is available for through Friday, Jan. 8. Buy tickets at USLacrosse.org/LaxCon.
