UMBC 2017 Lacrosse Schedule; Retrievers Open at UNC

UMBC will make its debut under Moran on Sat., Feb. 4, when they take on defending national champion North Carolina in Chapel Hill. A week later, the Retrievers return to Baltimore and make the short journey to Homewood Field, where they will face Johns Hopkins on Sat., Feb. 11.

“The ability to add the defending national champions in The University of North Carolina as a new opponent and retain the Hopkins’ game as early season competitions is a unique opportunity for this program,” Moran said. “These games will help improve our team RPI and conference’s RPI. Additionally, we feel these games will be great early season tests to better prepare us for our American East schedule.”

After a third consecutive road contest at Richmond on Sat., Feb., UMBC opens their five-game home schedule versus Mercer on Sat., Feb. 25 at noon. The Retrievers then welcome Towson in their lone back-to-back tandem of contests at UMBC Stadium on Sat., March 4, also with a noon opening face-off slated.

The Retrievers then play three consecutive games on the road. They visit Marist on Sat., March 11, and they open America East Conference competition at Stony Brook on Sat., March 18. UMBC completes the road swing by making their first-ever visit to Ann Arbor, Mich., where they will face the Michigan Wolverines on Sat., March 25.

The month of April opens and a vastly-improved UMass Lowell squad will visit UMBC Stadium on Sat., April 1 at 3:00 p.m. The Retrievers visit perennial league power Albany on Sat., April 8, before returning home for a league contest against Binghamton in the lone evening game (7:00 p.m.) of the campaign on Sat., April 15.

UMBC closes the road portion of the regular season at defending league champion Hartford on Sat., April 22. The squad will honor its seniors in the finale versus Vermont on Sat., April 29 at noon.

The America East Tournament will be played at the site of the regular season champion. The semifinals are slated for Thurs., May 5, while the title game is on tap for Sat., May 7.

“As competitive as we feel our non-conference slate is, our team is equally excited to compete in the American East this spring,” Moran said. “It is a conference that, in 2016, yielded two play-off teams with Albany and Hartford, the fifth, seventh and eleventh scoring offenses in Stony Brook, Albany and Vermont and the nation’s top face-off team in the Hartford. We are excited about the challenges and opportunities this schedule provides us.”
