GUILDFORD, England — On its fifth day in England, and the first with sunny skies, the United States women’s lacrosse team celebrated with a pair of convincing victories at the Surrey Sports Park. The U.S. shut out Scotland 20-0 in the morning and then posted a resounding 20-2 victory over England in a game streamed worldwide.

As was the case in Friday’s 21-7 victory over the English developmental team, the U.S. found itself in an early hole against England. England’s Megan Whittle, an All-American who just finished her sophomore year at the University of Maryland, scored just 1:58 into the game. That proved to only be a blip on an overall dominating performance from the U.S. team.

“Every day our goal for Team USA is to get better than the last, and we showed that today and we were able to put more things together,” said Team USA’s Kelly Rabil, who had a goal and two assists in the game.

Fueled by a hat trick from Alyssa Murray, and a pair each from Taylor Cummings, Alex Aust, Danielle Etrasco, and Katie Schwartzmann, Team USA took a commanding 14-1 lead into the break and continued to cruise in the second half. Shannon Gilroy finished with four goals, and Cummings took match MVP honors.

In an earlier game, the U.S. blanked Scotland 20-0, outshooting the Scots 33-2. Cummings led the U.S. with five goals in the victory and Murray had a hat trick.

The 10 am local time tilt provided the team with a simulation of the time change effects they’re likely to face in next year’s FIL World Cup.

“That’s one of those elements that we’re going to have to prepare for,” said U.S. team goalie and captain Devon Wills.

As the score sheet showed, Team USA has acclimated quite well.

The U.S. completes the tour with games against Germany and Wales on Sunday.
