US Lacrosse will hold a free one-hour webinar to introduce the lacrosse community to its new Lacrosse Athlete Development Model on Friday, Feb. 5 beginning at 11:30 a.m. (Eastern). The webinar is limited to the first 100 participants, so register now at the link below:

The Lacrosse Athlete Development Model aims to “square the pyramid” of lacrosse player development by introducing the sport to more individuals, keeping people engaged with the sport for a longer period of time, widening the pool of candidates at the elite level, while also increasing participation at all levels.

“Everyone has said this has to be done,” said Erin Smith, director of education and training at US Lacrosse. “There are a lot of hurdles with early recruiting, the tournament scene and kids being pushed to specialize early, but people have told us this is the right thing for the kids and the sport.”

One of the first pieces developed for the model were guidelines for small-sided games for boys’ and girls’ youth lacrosse. Building off small-sided principles already utilized in certain parts of the country, it’s a blueprint for leagues and organizations to prepare their players for the eventual transition to full-field competition.

The webinar, geared towards program leaders, coaches and parents, provides a look at the rationale behind the movement and steps people can take to help improve the lacrosse experience in their community.
